Jackson Hole

For some years, I displayed images from Jackson Hole that were almost exclusively landscapes. I gave comparatively short shrift to wildlife and people in the valley — which of course includes the droves of tourists who visit Grand Teton National Park (nearly 4 million annually.) Here — with images that extend the borders of “Jackson Hole” to include our next door neighbor, Teton County, Idaho — I decided to merge my favorite pictures, some more than 15 years old, some from the most recent summers, combining black & white and color landscape photography with photos from the vibrant, lovely community in which we’ve made our home. And of course, that incudes our neighborhood moose.

I take a lot of photographs in the months I spend in and around the valley. (I have only to look out the window, see a big cloud in the shape of a hand with a crooked finger beckoning me, and I’m off, camera in hand.) Other than mountains and clouds, there is, of course, recurring subject matter. So, expect to see our many lakes, the autumn harvest across Teton Pass, people of all ages wearing cowboy hats, and both locals and visitors at our scheduled events: the rodeo, the county fair, the 4th of July parade. Jackson Hole is a real place, and Jackson, Wyoming is a true Western town, even if it is home to the wealthy and a magnet to visitors. There is a reason why people come here.

You may ask: How many pictures can one take of the Tetons? By my example, I’d say an infinite number. Here are just some of my favorites.
